History and inheritance

In the 5th century, the Cavares, a Celtic-Ligurian tribe had already settled on the Puech, a little hill situated North of the current Noves.

From the 10th century on, Noves was rebuilt thanks to the Bishops and the Popes of Avignon, the lords of this place, who initiated huge works to dry the marshes and develop cultivating.

In the early 14th century, Jean XXII granted it an assembly. The story of Petrarque and Laure de Noves took place in those days.

Then, in the reign of Louis XI, the allegiance to France occured and Noves followed its fate.

Nowoday, the village has nearly 5000 inhabitants and includes Noves and the Paluds-de-Noves, each of them proposing traditional celebrations, as well as their own activities.
